#1 Extractors - Are they overkill on a standard 1200
Abyss Posted on: 2005/7/5 5:19
I have to replace the exhaust system on my ute and I was thinking of putting a set of extractors on while i'm at it.

Is it overkill on a stock 1200 and are they readily available?

Thoughts anyone?

Personally I'd put extractors on, if nothing else they'll help you sell the ute in the future... can be picked up in decent condition second hand for $30-$50

definately go for the extractors, they will improve performance on an otherwise standard engine.

Try ringing your local exhaust shops otherwise someone on here may have a set or Feral could ship some up to you.

definitly go the extractors if you can, and a bigger system with a free flowing muffler
you'll be amazed at how much more fun the car is to drive and how much freer it revs

I had a set of extractors + a weber 32/36 on a standard A14 a while ago and it went really well. It was running a stock carb for a while too which limited the revabilty dramatically. As soon as I uprgraded the carb it went great. The A-series is definately muffled andhelping it breathe makes a big difference.

Thanks for all the replies, it doesn't take much to convince me

I've had a look at the ones that Feral has and Genie have some listed in their catalogue so I will do the ring around and see what it's going to cost.

I'll also keep an eye out for any coming up 2nd hand.

Thanks

Just put on extractors, 2'' piping and a weber then watch the flames.

Well I have done it, the ute now has a set of extractors and a 2" system. It has made a good difference but it now has a flat spot which I will try and remove with a bit of a tune. Still running the standard carb but I am happy with what it has done.
