Quick Badge question

Hey there guys,
I was wondering when datsun 1000's b10 came out of the factory if the "D" on the grill was chromed/ shiny metal? Apon closer inspection today, iv noticed that some parts of teh badge seem liek it once was Shiny. There was some shiny parts with some green stuff that makes me think its been turned a gray colour due to its old age. I was thinking of buffing it back to the shiny metal. Can any one tell me if it was actually Chromed/ shiny at one point?

1000's came with various style D grill badges. All chrome/plastic.

Thanks, i think there is some gray paint on it from when the first owner.
