also is it easier just putting like an A14/15 instead of working the A12 a lot??

if yas have any easier/better ways of trying to reach 100+ HP in a 1000 coupe would you be able to share it wif me ?

Yes mate its totally possible and has been done many times.

If you are going to work anything it might as well be an A15 as its extra cubes are giving you a few extra neddys free of charge.

Fully worked race A15s are capable of putting out nearly 200hp so with the right engine builder and a pair of forties you should have no problems getting a respectable 150hp.

Contact vixen on this site(he's on the gold coast)he wont work for nothing and he doesn't give free information but i have nothing but praise for the engines that have been built by him for me,followed by on going track day support

yeah, let's keep the myth alive... haven't we all been there enough times to know better by now?

200bhp hey? I've never seen one! Well, that's not actually true. I've seen one that was claimed to have that 200bhp, with dyno sheets to "prove" it. Unfortunately it was slower in a straight line than one that had about 130bhp even though it was in a lighter car. When the flag drops...

Hi Shaun
Depends on what you want to use the car for a 100HP at the wheels is easy to achieve.
Matts 120y runs a 1270cc,32/36 webber and 104HP and 212nm torque at the wheels(still street drivable)The car has more power now but has not been back on the dyno.
An A15 would be a better way to go as Sidedraught said, cheaper HP.GREG Open in new window

Sounds like we have the start of another good fight between the A-Series and the Motor Swap people.

I'll stir things up a bit by saying "You mean 150 hp with NOX, right?"

while were on the HP topic why do people talk so much about HP an KWs when its torque that accelerates a car???? like below a 130hp vs 200hp(?) which had more torque

Pager, now's not the time to inject logic into a perfectly superfluous thread!

I tend to agree Harry.
We spent around 80 hours on the head (GX) - on and off the flow bench and getting the shaping as good as poss - imagine the cost to a customer.
Engine is VERY carefully squared up and balanced etc with all the bells and whistles.
We run twin 45s and are bored and stroked to 1608cc. Cam could have been bigger, but we went for a circuit compromise with enough torque to pull out of low speed corners - it is a biggy anyway
Estimated power at the engine is around the 146 mark with an at wheels of around the 120hp.
Put into perspective the Cortinas with bigger valves etc are not getting much more out of a pushrod

Whoops - looks like there were quite a few emails in between when I read Harry's email doubting 200hp and my actual reply lodgement - sorry guys if I got people lost in the thread somewhere
