I need some heavy duty front stub axles for my 1000... Has anyone here ever found anything off another car to fit?

I am looking at modifying some struts to fit in but thought I would ask if anyone else here has fitted anything before???

I originally fitted XF falcon balljoints to my 1000's control arms so I could use the XF stub axles and brakes etc.
I have since changed the top balljoint to HZ holden and have fitted HZ stubs and brakes. I machined up a tapered sleave so the bottom ford ball joint would fit the HZ stub. With the bottom ball joint it was easier to fit the ford item. The change to the HZ stubs allowed 15 x 6 wheels to tuck in the guards nicely ( my inner guards arent stock so I dont know how well stock would fit)
Steering is just a HZ outer tierod and steering arm machined to fit the 1000 inner tierod. Both setups need the steering angles modified to suit the 1000.

Both setup require the crossmember to be cut back and the bump stop moved inwards to the outer most crossmember mounting bolt. This needs to be done to allow clearance for the brake caliper when turning. I am sure Ian has a pic of his brakes which shows the same crossmember mod. ( I will look for it) Mine is in pieces now, so I cant take pics of it. I am also using a complete made up crossmember for other reasons.

I have done a similar conversion to this but made an Aluminium front spindle and caliper bracket. As I am using the car for circuit racing and am running 13X7 racing tyres front & rear, I want to change the front spindles before they break as everyone has been telling me.

Buy changing to HZ stubs do you know what this does to the front roll centre?

I wll most likely modify a strut assembly to keep the weight down. I have used HQ-HZ stubs before, they are very strong but also very heavy for a small car like this...

The actual stub height is 1 inch higher on the HZ stubs.
Does this affect the roll centre? Hopefully what I described will give you an idea.
My wags and its suspension isn't being built for track handleing, so I never focused on any thing like this, except keeping basic geometry. My wags is solely being built for having fun and dragging body.

There are a few members here who either have raced Datsun 1000's in the past, or who are racing them now. If you drop them a line i'm sure they would be able to tell you their tales of woe or triumph, & how any front end problems were overcome.

Come to think of it, I don't recall anyone mentioning spindle failure in any thread that I have read so far, so perhaps you are trying to address a problem that really isn't there.
The only problem that I don't really like about the Holden "heavy duty' spindles is the 'heavy' part.

Anyway, drop the racers a line to get the good oil, & you may just be able to save yourself some work

I believe 1 of dattoman_1000 's sport sedans has holden front stub axles.
For a street car, weight is only an issue if you dont have enough power to start with.

I am guessing the weight issue Dodgeman was refering to was the additional unsprung weight, rather than the weight holding back the performance of the car.

It would be good to get the overall weight of the guys unsprung weight including the heavy ass wheels and tyres used and compare it to a HZ setup.

Yes my car has LJ Torana stubs
But they are on fabricated upper and lower arms that bear no resemblance to Datsun ones
My car is tube chassis and everything is built to suit
