#1 any ideas on starting an a series not started in a long time
onetwo00 Posted on: 2006/7/20 13:14
about to start the a14 efi turbo in my 1200 sedan.
this particular engine was in good working order but it has been about a year since it has working and i am not expecting it to work
are there any miracle solutions to getting the thing started without blowing either the engine or the turbo seals???????????

take the coil lead off so the motor dose not fire then turn the motor with the ignition for 10 to 20 seconds to get the oil circulating around the engine and turbo

Pop the plugs out too so as to reduce the load on the starter/battery & to increase the cranking speed.
The objective is to ensure that you get some oil pressure up to purge air from the oil galleries.
Once this is done, you can start the engine & be confident that you have no dry parts moving against other dry parts.
You might squirt just a little oil down the bores to help seal the rings to ensure that you get full compression pressure when cranking & to lubricate the bore/rings untill they are lubricated in the normal way. Only a squirt or too, no more.

might want to pour a little oil on the parts under the valve cover before turning.
