i've heard of people putting an extension on it, then using the cars weight to undo the bolt.
I put a braker bar on mine and used my feet to push it (making sure the car was securly jacked up). Even after a couple of turns i still had to use feet!!! i have no idea why they are always so tight, its usually realised when the box is in too :)

i had this problem in my mates 1600 and the plug was rounded so i put a nut over it then welded it on and then i undid very easily
(i had a spare filler plug to replace it with) but maybe in your case it just needs more leverage a bit of pipe or a 18inch shifter

Hammer and spanner. Shock force is great at realeasing tight bolts. Puts less stress on the bolt and thread too. Dont go overboard. once the seal so to speak is cracked the bolt will move.

Dude,
flick the girly spanner Grab the big shifter and have a go!! Gearbox uses a tapered plug and the steel plug likes to hold on to the alloy housing. I have never had a disaster with these plugs - I personally wouldn't use heat but to each his own. A hint if the box is out of the car ..... lay the box down and use the weight of the box to your advantage. If you have it standing on end, it will easily want to topple and half your effort will be in pushing against yourself to hold it upright.Hope this helps.Cheers

If your not worried about wrecking the bolt. Stilsens/pipe wrench/plumbers wrench (whatever you want to call them) work really well (they have jagged teeth on the jaws). i used to use these when i used to do wheel alignments you can get absolutely anything undone with them with a bit of crc and a long enough bar for a bit a leverage :)

Went and bought some steel pipe - if I get time before the cruise in the morn I'll stick the pipe on the end of my big arse shifter and have some fun.
