I was watching SBS show Dateline on electric cars 8.30pm 13th sep WED. It was about how GM AND HONDA ETC were destroying new car and holding back the release of these cars. then next thing I see is a blue 2 door 1200 sedan drive down the road and when he pops the bonnet it was full electric motor with batteries in the back fully concealed (nice and neat) then they went back to his house/workshop and he had a white 1200 converted aswell . At least I know that 1200 datsuns will still be around long into the future the world will be a better place

did anyone else see it or know of the person in the USA that did them

There's a page on this very website that has all the details on these cars, or rather maybe some links to them. Apparently there used to be a factory that bought the half completed cars, without engines en gearboxes, and then converted them to electric. It was somewhere in the USA.

John visits this page occasionally. It's funny he's not following up here. I'm sure he knows there are a lot of Aussies on this website.

I saw this too, including crushing the Brand New Electric Hondas.
The 1200 Drag Car had a super elec thingy under the bonnet, originally some 69bhp & minimal torque the elec donk bumped that too some 399bhp+ and 700+++ grunty torque(pre metric).
Did wheelies out of the gate and thrashed a V8 Mustang.
Still - they still had to recharge the thing, and that needs power geeation . . probably coal/coke/oil/etc.
Pity you can't run Datto's on love eh !

you can make electricity using tidal, wind, nuclear solar. you don't need to burn fossil fuels.

However I reckon this cars a bit of a con...I mean how many runs could it do before recharging???

This car can do somethin like 60 kays before recharging but thats normal runnin, not doin the drag thing, so did he trailer the car home??

he beat a mustang, but the mustang could probably do 100 runs before needing more gas.

What do you mean by "not normal runnin"? 95% of my trips are less than 60k ... mostly around 20 miles or less. Only on every other weekend do I take longer trips than 60 kilometers.

Blue Meanie is a city/suburb car. He drives it to the racetrack and drives it back. He has a hybrid for long-distance trips.
