Hi, I'm new here. I'm from Norway. A kind man from the village I live in handed me a Datsun Cherry 120A F-II (F10) 4-door, from 1978, with 1172cm

I know I mounted an 1.3 l. engine from an 1983 Toyota Starlet (called a 4K) into a Toyota Corolla KE30 from 1976, which had an old 3K-H engine. I used all the external parts from the Corolla, like manifold, start motor, carburettor, and so on. Can it be done the same way with the A14 engine into a car that originally had an A12 engine?

I have one 1978 datsun 120y , the original engine is the a12 , i have instaled one a14 engine without modifications.
The only diference is from the a12 to the a14 is the block size, the a14 is 2cm taller.

Hi Lars,
Badge/emblem may still be available from Nissan. In many other countries we did not get a FII or 120A badge, but called F10 or (see Nissan Cherry at wikipedia.org). A14 is also using slightly different inlet manifolds and exhaust. Other FWD A14s will *probably* fit easily, but the transmission may not be strong enough. If yours has the 60-series transmission it will be good. Also consider that transmission bolts to the engine, and A14 oil pan may be different. Please consult with other Cherry 2nd-generation owners.

Hello Lars.It must be a nice place to live where people are giving Datsuns away.....You should have a look a the forum of the English Datsun club (www.datman.co.uk I think),there is a topic there on this.Apparently the engine is held in place differently on the N10,so you would have to put the F10 oil pan on the A14 to be able to bolt the silent bloc on,but I don't think there are much other problems to it.People like Eddie Rattley (Ratdat) have done this before,so they will be able to answer all your questions.

Different manifold? Is the exhaust located on the same side of the car on the N10 as the F10? Perhaps the front part of the exhaust from the N10 can be used on the F10?
It was called 120A F-II in the UK, yes? Perhaps there is something there? I understand datman has a lot to offer and contribute regarding Datsuns. And yes, I did not expect the deal! I asked him, and he told me to take it, seeing as it was taking up a parking space in front of the local food mart. He just signed the owner's change papers, and voila. Parked for some three years now, but I shall get it going soon! Its keys are also missing, but the key number was in the glove compartment. I think its key code is VH. I think the key number in the glove compartment is the description of the ignition key; and to get a door/trunk/fuel lid key, I must remove the lock cylinder in the front door, I think..? But the best: No body rust! Its color is a mixture between yellow and green, and the paint is very worn. It deserves a good repaint! Inside the car, both in the engine room and in the trunk, it is in very fine shape! I appreciate all help I can get here! Thank you ever so much! Datsun is a very cool and nostalgic brand, and I wish to restore it fully, seeing as how I like working on older japanese cars (the other car I have being a Corolla KE30). I have worked on it today. It is now washed and cleaned perfectly on the inside! It is in about the same condition now as on these pictures from a german ad: http://www.datsun.de/assets/images/Datsun_Cherry_1976_06.jpg and the interior is exactly the same as the brown and black seats to the right: http://www.datsun.de/assets/images/Datsun_Cherry_1976_07.jpg If I encounter further problems, you can count on me leaving a question here! Great page, great people! Safe driving ![]()

On further question; How can I know if my transmission is of the 60-series? :)
