#1 Rad hose poping off
beattie Posted on: 2007/3/18 10:38
Well now i have the A15 in and running, when it gets to operating temp, and therefore maximum pressure the bottom hose pops off the block. Now what i have done is cut the pipe off just before the first heater hose T as im not running a heater. This removes the lump at the end. I know ive seen other A15 owners who have done this. What have you done to hold the hose on there.

So far i have attempted stripping the paint off the tube and scratching it up a little and using the "sticky black loctight ####" on it.

If nobody has some miricle cure, ill bring the welder home from work again and weld a blob or 2 on the end.

Thanks guys and girls!

you can see in the top left insert what i mean.

Can you remove the hose fitting from the block?
Can't see the photo clearly, but if it's removable, pull it off & run a bead of weld around it. TIG's probably best, but anything'll do providing the welder has the skills......

Either that or get someone to machine up a ring to a reasonably tight tolerance, sand any paint off the hose connection & glue the ring on with some 627 (green) Loctite or similar.

Hope that helps.

Nah Coops you cant get the pipe out without turning it to ####.

who sells wiggins clamps blofly? Most places (including my work) stock Tridon. Whats so special about em?

I think the welding a blob idea is the best so far. We'll see.

I've done a lot of dodgy things in my time.. But I've never had radiator hoses pop off. Have you had the cooling systems operating pressure checked?

Unless it's physically getting pulled off from engine torque or something.

You can get some hose sealant/glue stuff (I've used it), but then it's almost impossible to get the hose off in the future.
Remember that most modern car use pressure clips, not even hose clamps to keep the radiator hoses on. So I think there is something else wrong.

edit: so I see from the photos that it's very likely the hose diameters are different on the radiator, and on the engine. You might have to use parts of 2 different radiator hoses, and machine up an adapter between the 2 diameters.

wiggins clamps are used on most intercooler plumbing connections and motorcycle exhaust systems you can get them from FJ Sweetmans fasteners

I just looked up Sweetmans fasteners... In Bunbury, great! Prospec is gonna see what he can get me from his work, he works with big machinary/hydrolic things.

If not i might try coventrys fasteners or some hydrolic shop. Might be able to give me a lead.
