Busted wheel nut/stud....Help please

Put the ute in to have the brakes tidied up and it hit a snag. When the boys were removing the passenger rear wheel one of the nuts sheered (?) and is now stuck on the stud spinning freely. Because it's not gripping the stud is proving real hard to break.
I've never had a problem like this, anyone got any ideas how to get the nut off without damaging the rim?

Can you get some strong vice grips onto the nut and then hit the stud through out the back of the axle just enough to get the nut off?

Not much room to fit vice grips, and my mechanic said there's bugger all room to get at the back of the stud.
I was tossing up drilling through the nut or taking to it with a narrow chisel to split the top and weaken it. I'll pop down tomorrow and look into your idea, anybody got some more ideas?

there should be enough room between the back of the axle flange and the drum backing plate to hit the stud at least 20mm in, even if you move it a small amount you may be able to catch the stud on some good thread.

Vice grips will hold the nut while u hacksaw through the stud. After tat, punch it out towards the axle and get another 1 from a recka. I paid $25 but it's worth it.

Sorry, forgot to mention, it's on TRX rims. That said I don't know where I could get a hacksaw in. And yeah, I was budgeting a new stud (but the boys can pay for it, 'coz the tyre joint that used the shonky nuts sure wouldn't).

Sorry mate, missed your bit. I'll head down first thing tomorrow and give it a bash. This prob is really pissing me off, as everything else on the ute is tiptop now.

Of course I've got a hacksaw
It's just the nuts are inside the rim and there is no room behind to squeeze a blade in (at least I don't think there is). I hate wheels!!!!
