Need help finding a replacement carb.

Hi, I was wondering what are some common alternatives to use instead of the original A12 carbs. We have a Hitachi I believe and we've gone through hell and back with two different carbs using the best of both and numerous carb rebuild kits and nothing we do seems to fix it. We just can't get it to run right and even when we do, it screws itself up after awhile and starts running like crap again. I'd like to have some twin Webers but the cheapest I've found them is $600 and we only paid $300 for the car and are trying to do the cheapest rebuild we can. We've got all new parts for the drivetrain that we need but none of them will matter if we can't get a decent carb on it. What have some of you guys used in place of the originals? And where do I find one for a decent price? Thanks

A good replacemente is a Weber dgv 32/36...they are cheap, around 50$...at least that what mine cost...and you'll need an adaptor plate...get it off ebay or build one...
Search around ther is a lot of info on it...i have one...and your car shouldnt run like crap on a stock carb...take a look ate the ignition sistem...check your advance...my stock carb ran like crap and when i started looking for the problem i saw the distributor was all the way back with max retarded advance... hope i was helpfull...peace...

Weber DGV is the most common replacement. See http://wiki.datsun1200.com
Although for economy and smoothness, a rebuilt Hitachi is the best.

As stated above check your ign system first! Because when you think about it. a A12 with a original A12 carby should run beautifuly as if it came out of the factory. unless there is something wrong.
How is it running poorly? Bad idle? Missfiring? Lack of power/revability?

The major problem is the idle. It runs pretty rough and fast, it wont keep running at a low idle, and the choke doesnt seem to work very well
