#1 Unfinsihed Projects - Stripped Datsuns
Davo1200 Posted on: 2008/1/28 5:56
I've been noticing a trend - maybe not so much here on the forum - but datsuns in general seem to be getting half jobs done to them. I mean - i see so many once working datsuns striped to the shell with big intensions to make it a show piece - or at least a restored datsun - but never end up making it past the stripping stage - or - paint shell no engine - or - turbo engine in no paint no interior - or paint stripped rust everywhere gave up - or whatever... It just seems some people just cant complete a full project - or run out of money before they start.

I dunno - i could be talking crap. But in order to preserve as many datsuns as possible - i think stripping original working datsuns should be illegal unless you actually start and FINISH the project. If the datsuns shell is un-repairable - salvage everything.

My 1200 has been a constant state of repair for over 6 years - i never once thought about selling it. Well - maybe once or twice - but not seriously - i just cant get rid of somthing half done - its like cutting a datsun 1200's throat and throwing it in the bin... Ok bad analogy - but u get the point...

Maybe these people are just not real datsun enthusiests? I dunno about u - but i have a bond with my 1200 - kinda like a pet dog i guess - and selling it half alive is not on the cards... Selling fullstop is not on the cards...

What do you guys think?

things can change from week to week, i can say that half the people on this site would have more than one datto in there shed! probably just taking on to many projects at once, its not all wasted thought, i can truely say that most half finished projects get finished off by other people , who then only have to do half of the work!!

You never can tell. Some people buy a datto with the good intentions to fix 'em up but don't realise just how much works involved. Others lose interest (like you've said yourself), while some have unexpected problems arise.

You also have to look at the fact that some datto's just can't be saved. My first sedan was quite rusty and probably could never be returned to street. I gave up on her and now she's someone's junior speedway car, no doubt slaughtering all those worthless Corolla's.

I guess what I'm trying to say is one man's loss is anothers gain.

I suppose - a datsun will never be sold to someone that doesnt want it.

2 major reasons
money and responsabilities.
Money can be lack of or it can be more profitable to sell.
Responsabilities come with adult life.

Why do some people spend all their money on doing things to their cars and still have a leaky bucket. Rather than save their money and do ithe car good or buy a new car.
Thats people.

Unfinished projects make the best buying. My 510 was someones abandoned project. They half stipped it, half primered it, and butchered the tunnel to fit a bigger gearbox. But, I saw past all that, and saw that the base was there to build a really nice car without the hardship of repairing a basket case. The biggest hurdle is lack of money, and lack of skill. people who don't have the know bite off more than they can chew.
