#1 How to mount a 13b in a 1200 ute?
Dylan Posted on: 2008/5/25 13:06
Hey i'm new to this but i really want to put a 13b into a 1200 ute but i have had trouble finding any info at all on how to approach this project. Is there any way of purchasing a subframe all engineered and made up ready for engine mounting or any specs on how to modify one. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

Does this mean that a 13B is too big in the gov't eyes? I think that unless going with a huge turbo or something that a CA18DET is a more potent combo and there are a bunch of those in Aus by the look of things.

Yes in NSW at least the govt, treats a 13b as 2.6 litre, with the maximum allowable capacity being approx. 2 litre NA.

There is a complete step by step with pics of fitting a rotary into a 1200 on this site, use the search button, it may take a while to find but its worth it as its very good.

So, what type of engineer do you have to consult with. Do these engineers specialize in looking at automotive related items or are they engineering the plumbing on commercial buildings for their real job and they moonlight at this?

They are automotive engineers who are recognised by the relevant vehicle registration authorities as engineering signatories for the purpose of issuing engineering certificates, so generally speaking, no they are not plumbers.

racinaround, your in the USA? then it may be totally different. But in Australia the car must comply to the Australian Design Rules and be approved by an RTA (or other state body where applicable) approved engineer.

Fortunately in the US if you can figure how to install a Small Block Chevy you can usually license it, with one of these older cars. The place that they trip you up in the US is on emmisions tests but most states no longer have a true safety inspection. I think Texas and California do and I'm sure that there are others but for the most part if you can build it you can run it.
