I am going to purchace a 1200 ute and the one I am looking at already has a ca18 conversion done. I was wondering whether anyone has any advise on whether or not I should just buy one myself and do the conv, or is there anything I should look out for when I go to buy this sick ute?

It will always be easier and cheaper to buy someone elses project (I asumme cheaper).

I'd look at engine condition - does it blow blue smoke? Diff grind? Any weird noises in when driving....sort of stuff you'd look at in any car I guess.

Is it engineered? another good question I would say.

Yeah engineering is a big question, but I guess that depends on where you come from? look for rust in the usual places (<<<

the 1200 apparently has a engerneering plate but it is from the ACT, and I am in QLD. Will there be a major issue with it being from ACT, I will be getting RACQ to check it all out.

It will have to go threw blue slip again because you are bringing it from another state. These can be quite a pain in the ass, I'm not sure if the engineers report for the car is valid in another state, another user will have to answer this for you.

yep , you basically are registering the car as if it was unregistered.
i bought my rb20 zed from nsw, and when i went to register it, i got a roadworthy, then took to get a blue plate, they looked over the mods and the engineers report and 200 later i had a plate, then took all the paperwork to d.o.t. and processed it. wallah.

I was just unsure if engineers reports cover mods in other states... But thanks for clearing that up pepper... I guess that you need to make sure that the engineers report and, or mod plate cover ALL of the modifications made to the car otherwise you will have to go to the expense of getting another engineer to look over it... and by everything I mean, everything, say for example an aftermarket seat is fitted it may not meet the ADR's so it may not pass...

Other things will be insurance if you are young cause that can be a killer.

Just take note of all the little things wrong with it cause they can add up.

It's normally cheaper buying one that has already had the conversion but it can work the other way if the conversion has been done poorly.
