hi guys im in a bit of a pickle at the moment. i cant get every part that i want to repair my 63a 5 speed, so i have been thinking about toyota 5 speeds. i have in my possession a w50 out of a ra40 celica that i could put in, or i have a mate with a t50 out of either a t18 or an ae71 corolla.
just wondering who has a w series box in their 1200 and whats involved in fitting one without a dellow kit bellhousing wise. i do have a 56 series front housing to chop up and do have the skills and tools at my disposal to make a bellhousing. any help help would be appreciated. oh and its a race car with an a15 in it so i only need the simple things. cheers kurt

someone made the t50 box without fitting a dellow kit (i have done it with the kit)
they used an a-series auto bell housing as it bolted off the auto, but that doesnt help a lot really anyway the other person that did it did post pictures.. hopefully someone remembers who it was or that person remembers doing it, otherwise search search search

yeah 1200rc that was dat141 or aiden he gave me the measurements to adapt the t50 setup into a 1200 as well as step by step instructions on how to do it. but i have been in consultation with my corolla mates and they recon that i will just break a t50 because to them they are weak. but ive never heard of an na a series doing that. hence the idea of the w50.

doubt you will break a t50 remember a series arent torquey
so i cant see you breaking one unless it wasnt in very good cond to start with (thrashed when behind the bigger original motors) and/or you are giving it a heap doing burnouts they dont tend to help with gearbox suriviability haha

had a t50 behind the twin turbo setup and it wasn't an issue (went through one box but it was rooted when i got it)
also bought another dellow to t50 setup that was behind an a15 rally car and he seemed to be happy with it (he went ca hence not needed)

i have a bit of a habit of breaking dogs in datsun gearboxes
but its not entirely my fault. and the non torquey part was my argument back. she only pulls in the hp region ie 5000 to 8000 as compared to a 4age or 4agze with a t50.

The W50's are too heavy for a datsun. My old man runs one behind his 245 hemi. I'm going to run one in my charger too. WAAAAAY to big for a datto. A bloke I know adapted a silvia 6speed to his A15 b310 sunny rally car.

Been running a W58 box in my ute for the past 9 years, never had any problems with it been tooo big.
Have 3 mates running the same, and know of at least another dozen running W50, W57 and W58 boxes. If ya don't want to change bellhousing, just make a template up of both mating surfaces and then get some 10mm plate and then take it past ya local laser-cut shop anf have it fabbed.

yeah i just found out a guy in town has a w58 behind his na a14 in a ute. but i dont have one, cant get one for free, and think that the t50 would be better due to sheer simpleness, the are the gearboxes we are mucking around at tafe with lol
