hey
im looking at putting a l20b in my 1200 ute and jsut wanting to know what do you do to make it fit. like does it bolt straight in or can you buy a mouting kit

You have to make mounts on the cross member no fitting kits available really. wont go into heaps info but theres more to it than just drop it in.

im trying to do it now on my daily. depends on gearbox aswell,mines a long tail 5speed,the stumpy would be better.but im using what ive got from a trx bluebird. youll need to get a tailshaft made and i hope its an auto tunnel otherwise youll be choppin that out too. you may need a thinner radiator,but i havent got that far,if so ill use the mid 90s corolla seca one ive got,fits a treat in the bay. good luck,ill have some more pics up soon of mine as i go.

PIGDOG, Whitesedan, baldy to name 3. There the guys to talk to they have been there done that. Have helped me heaps it ends up being the little things that drag on as R-Fastmotorsport warned me about.

I have done two now with L16's, both manual sedans, neither have had anything chopped out apart from the mounts that sit up in the gearbox tunnel, both short boxes, (I think a longer box would be easier as they would be slimmer.

You need to massage (a lot) around where the firewall joins the trans tunnel.

There is a lot of sump work as well, to get it to sit at correct height and angle for the tailshaft, you need to get the sump almost touching the pickup, I couldnt mod the crossmember for IPRA so that caused a few more issues, this is using L16 stanza sump and pickup. L20 is another 3/4 inch higher than my motors, but both my motors clear bonnet by more than that anyway.

Do a search on the wiki, all this has been repeated many many times.

you still using the alloy pickup sean?
think when i redo my sump i'll make up another pickup that runs along the engine more then comes straight down as the alloy one just going on an angle down to the pickup is really not the most space saving thing

Yeah its a pain, I nearly used an a12 one to lengthen it as they are steel but standard one will do for now, it all clears nicely now. I bought a oil fiter relocation kit and oil cooler, so will fit that later on and bypass and block the internal pickup, and run external pickup from the front of the sump straight to the oil pump cover.

i was just going to cut up an L18 one and make it face forward

but will definately be making a new sump when the engines out and probably trying to use some kinda decent thickness flange to start with so my sump gasket wont always be leaking

Yeah should be a pretty sound setup when im done, if Im ever done.

I did see sikyne's ad for fabrication work, images of winged alloy sumps went through my head...

ive got many ppl that can weld alloy for me so was thinking the same thing. and coz my brother got an alloy winged morroso(i think) sump for his 3tet

cant let him have a better looking engine than me
