#1 Cost of Engineers Certificate?
Datsun1000 Posted on: 2009/4/30 12:22
Hi Guys,

I know some of you have had engineering done, i am in the process of getting my 1k certifed and was wondering what your engineers have charged.

ie: cost of initial plan, test costs like lane change, exhaust noise, braking etc... and how much for final certification.

Just want to have a general idea so i dont get ripped off.

Cheers!

i've rung a few engineers in my area, and initial consult ranges from $250-$400, but i cant seem to glean the other costs, so just looking into it befor commiting my cash for the consult, so any experiences would be great to hear.

In Adelaide it ranges between $1400 and $2000, that includes all the testing, Track hire and paper work.

hey there. i had my 120y engineered for a l20b conversion. $870 for the eng report and sign off but $3000 worth of changes at the datsun work shop i went to. I had to get one cos i was caught by the cops with the l20b. $250 fine, would of been 500 if i was a smart arse to them.

Yeh im looking at this for my 1k in melbourne too, I'm yet to see one but think it'd be wise to fully read up on the vicroads site as they seem to have a system in place if youre planning on putting a more powerful engine in you need something called a VASS Approval Certificate apparently.

VICROADS MOD PAGE
I rang one of the VASS guys on the list provided by vicroads and the charges start from $350 just to look at it! then the certificate is about $400 then more if you want further tests (brakes ect)
He told me the car needed to be roadworthy...I said Oh...I need a RWC before I see you? then he got all crabby almost yelling no no im not looking at a car thats not roadworthy...well der at $350 a pop you think im going to rock up with it held with gaffa?
So yeh thats my not-so promising start, I think I decided to just take it easy and do up the car bit by bit before even considering it now...oh and ill be looking to deal with a VASS accreditor WITHOUT the attitude.

Good luck, let me know what you learn and ill do likewise

i followed all of the requirements in the Vehicle Standards Bulitin http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/road ... ation/bulletin/index.aspx which engineers bas there assesment on, so im pretty sure everything is compliant. just after some info about other peoples cost, as i have no option but to engineer it now as its been off the road for a while and i forgot to renew the reg.
