colour codes for nice 2K blue on a 1200

Hey guys,
I was was hoping I could get some colour codes from you chaps on what you guys would call a nice shade of blue to spray my 1200. I was looking at the "intense blue" on new nissans, but its metallic. At the mo, I dont have enough to get metallic with scratch resistant clear coat...(my in-laws have dogs that love jumping on cars!) So I'm spraying it with 2K - easier & cheaper to touch up. My wife asked me not to get it "dariboard" colour (those that have been to or are from Zim will know what i'm talking about!) But its hard looking at color cards & imagining what my 1200 will look like! Its at the panel beaters & Im planning on taking the engine out today - if i can get a gantry & van to move it! Ta.

Consider a genuine Datsun 1200 color. Your color now appears to be #005 (Turquois Blue).
What about #688 (a sort of robin's egg blue) or #544 medium blue? Details and photos at: Tech: Colors

You cant repair/blow in 2k bud, You have to respray the whole damaged panel. Maybe spray it in a solid acrylic color easier to just repair and blow in any scratches etc.

Tell them it is 1978 Nissan color #544. The major paint companies should have the formula, small shops may not. Ask for a sample first to be sure it's right.

By solid acrylic, that would be what we call Duco here...? Doesn't give a high shine like 2k does, hey? Shucks, 2k is cheaper than metallic but it is less prone to showing scratches, right? When I do my full out rebuild in a few years, I'll spray it metallic. I should be able to afford it then...

Why dont you spray the 2k and put a few coats of 2k clear over that. In doing it that way only the clear will scratch

Here Duco is just a word for paint jobs in general. we say hey mate Nice duco. By solid i mean colors like original datsun colors not metallic another term is flat colors. You can get acrylic to shine as good as 2k lay it on block it with 800 lay on some more and then lay on 2 or 3 coats of acrylic clear. cut it buff it mmm nice. At the end of the day yes 2k holds up for longer when it comes to straight off the gun but both all depend on prep work.
