#1 Battery relocation to tray, boot etc.
bailz Posted on: 2009/11/25 23:02
Just wondering where everyone has run the cable for there battery In the tray or boot. Obviously you only need one cable to the starter motor and then a ground to the chassis etc. Just curious on where u ran the cable from the front to the back? It's for a ca conversion, I am thinking under the right handside next to the chassis rail? Or is there a better spot?

in my sedan i ran it under the carpet and same in my ute but ithere already was a hole in the back of the cab to run it through thats why o did it that way or i woulda ran it underneath

Under carpet is a good idea but would it be possible to engineer that? Because the cable is inside the cab And a possible fire risk under the carpet? I am using monster cable so heat is no issue for me...

there would be more risk running it under the car than under the carpet, under the car its open to objects on the road, weather close to fuel lines etc, its no differance to haveing your stereo wires under the carpet, im 99% sure if it was run under the carpet properly not going to get cut by seat rails etc an engineers wouldnt have a problem after all they engineer cars with the whole batterie in the boot

Yeh I wAs just curious to know where people ran there's... I couldn't care if mine ran under the carpet cause the cable is plenty big enough not to have any volt drop or heat...

i think it should be inside the car (all rally cars have it that way)

underneath it would require some sort of mechanical protection from the elements/rocks/speed humps etc etc

I ran mine on the right hand side of the driver under the carpet to the back of the cab and the across to the passenger side and then thru the back to the battery for the ute.

Used 35mm2 cable.

It is more dangerous under the carpet. If a short occurs in worst case a fire starts. If this is inside the passenger compartment it is more danger to the driver than if the fire is outside the passenger compartment.

Of course this has nothing to do with State requirements (engineering) or with Race regulations. The risk of a fire is low either way if done properly. Nevertheless in 1973 all 1200s in usa were fitted with fire resistant interior materials.

Easier to just keep it in the engine bay. I run one of these... http://www.braillebattery.com/index.php/batteries/b106/ Six pounds, $140USD
