#1 Fisch's intro and 1959 Datsun 1000 (L210) AND Datsun art
Fisch Posted on: 2009/12/1 18:12
Hi guys, my name is Scott Fischer, and I have a 1959 Datsun 1000 (aka L210)

(WOW I can't seem to figure out how to post photos with out making a mess! Will try to edit more.)

It is a rare little buggy, and I've learned a bit about it from this site, so thank you!

I wondered if anyone here has experience with the c-engine in my Datsun. It is based off of the British B-series 1500. But is a destroked version. (I learned that here!)

What I am wondering is how close it is to the brit engine. Wondering if things like heads and manifolds will swap over? I'd like to get a bit more bang from the 37hp beast!

Do many things swap from british to datsun at all?

Here is a pic from the first day I got it:

There are 18 pages of info on this car here:

Also I am a moderator at Ratsun and the "Resident Ratsun Artist" because I draw Datsuns in my Spare time. (I am a professional illustrator.) Here are a few for you to see!:

Anyway a pleasure to be here and make an introduction. I've been here countless times and am glad to participate.

Hi Fisch, welcome to the club. We don't know too much about the C engine here, just that it was the first Nissan engine derived from the Austin partnership.

If you wish to double your horsepower, fit an A14 engine, same exterior size, lighter weight too. 80 horsepower.

welcome to the club, what a find very straight and complete. A very unique and attractive shape and styling. Sounds like u are planning keeping it fairly original, thats good.

Thanks for the welcome guys! Man I have been cramming on the British connection for this car, and guess what. This is essentially the same engine that was put in the MG A and MGB for like 30 years!! There are tons of mods out there for it. Even supercharger options.

But I have a thought to not do anything too wild to the original engine, and think about getting a MGB 1800 engine to go wild with. Preserving the original engine? But man it would be sweet to hop up the original mill too... I am still on the fence. Is any of the MGB stuff identical to the Datsun A-series? (motor mount locations, manifolds, etc.)

And guess what, I got it running for the first time tonight. Check her out!

1959 Datsun running!

i think the larger 1800 Mg engine is OHC and less reliable than the british A series, Nissan engines would be more reliable.

Hey Fisch, seen your stuff over at Ratsun, but its great to see you here. Lovin the manga datto style!

Datsuns are so tough, I recently put an a14 in my 120Y that had been sitting at a local wreckers for an unknown eon. The guys there didn't even know they had it!

It fired up so easily and went really hard untill the blown ring that must of put in there in the first place really let go! If I didn't have such a lead foot then it would still be going strong.

You almost cannot kill these things.

I really like the shape of the 59 you got, a real classic man, good luck with it!
