Another bloody 1k thread: Seatbelts

Wondering if any of you 1k owners out there have ever modded their seatbelts?
I'm about 6ft and the stock belt location is pretty low in relation to the shoulder. Is this a legal issue to have the top connection beneath the shoulder? Of course once you start changing that sort of stuff may require engineers cert ect, ...or is it easier to just lower the seats? ;) Apart from one "Mr Bean" style mod for some aftermarket belts higher up (a bolt straight through from the outside!) I havent seen any others. Any thoughts? ...Pics?

how many doors have you got?
there's a few different spots as it seems belts were dealer fitted, 69 and earlier lappies are allowed, well pre 69 you don't have to have belts, but if they are fitted you have to use them, if you have to have it inspected, they prefer lap sash...

If you get really keen, you could push a bolt through from the outside, weld it in place at the right height, and bobs ya uncle you have lap/sah belts at the right height. Most inspectors wouldnt have a clue about where the belts are supposed to be on 1000s so as long as it looks tidy they wont bat an eyelid.
You could also do that from the inside with some tricky welding. Depends on how keen you are.

Its a 2 door the sticker says 1970 but there are no seatbelts for the rear so could be a 69?
The seatbelts are mounted where the windows meet the b pillar, which sits below my shoulder line. with the the small size of the b pillar im not sure if it would structally allow another mounting point apart from just below the roof line. I guess its just more wanting to know what sort of safety mods people have done or thought about. I went to take the seats out last night and was suprised how little is holding them in :/ I think the lower the seats option is the best solution, cobra classics... one day :)

Hey Scully,
I couldn't even begin to describe the comfort of Cobra Classic seats. I bought the ones with the headrest and they are amazingly comfortable and very snug. Don't waste your time wondering and wishing. Put the cash away and buy one. Put that in then buy the second.

Sounds like a plan! So they are high backs Chris? I'd always imagined lower profile ones would suit the 1k.
Be good to see how you mounted them, The pin/r clip attachment and/or the tilt forward seats are great ideas to carry over, if you had to make something up that is.

dont get the low backs, they look good but have been called back snappers like the old morris mini seats, the low line sits just below most shoulder blades and in an accident, you risk snaping your spine in the whiplash.
Trust me, i survived a serious accident just after swapping to cobra high back recliners in my mini in 1996

I dunno about 'high-back, low-back' and what not. I don't think I am as tall as you guys either but the seats I have are the ones with headrests, which you can remove if you wish.
I like the original look of no headrests but I'm simply not going to take the chances. But as a 1000 owner to another. Cobra classics are they way to go.

Well I guess theres not much difference in the high a low models, looks like its just the headrest part...and yeh were talking safety after all eh. Did you get rails with them or have to alter/make much to get them on?

I'm surprised yours actually came with a shoulder belt. I have a 1970 but it only has lap belts in the from and non at all in the rear. In my opinion, the seat belts are just as bad as the seats themselves. They are perfect for a good wipe-lashing if you're ever hit. I've been considering installing one bucket seat...
