I for one would to remove the leaf front end for at least 10kg saving.

The leaf system is not a "weak point" -- it is the great feature of Datsun 1000. The weight is mostly unsprung, compare to a coilover. Height is easily adjustable.
No disadvantages. Modern corvette uses the same design. Coilovers, while better than regular strut, are a step backwards for IRS center leaf.

and changing the point of load on the arms,
