#1 63A #2 gearbox question
Bandit_blues Posted on: 2010/6/11 17:41
Is it all 63A gearboxes dogleg? Mine is says 63A #2 on the side.

No, not all are doglegs, and some are even 4-speeds.

The 63-series gearbox for A-series engines are all dogleg 5-speeds. The #1, #2 or #3 castings are just variations on the same thing.

Mine is from a US 77 B210 and is a five speed. Now i almost have all pieces to make the conversion from auto to manual, i read here that the propeler shaft is the same as the automatic isn`t it? I will put the A12 flywheel and need the b210 clutch because the spline is larger. I was thinking about the one from datsun b510 but is wider! I will have to buy one from rockauto...

I know the b210 auto tailshaft has the same output spline as a 63a box, so it's just a matter of getting it to the right length. I've also been told once that the E15 clutch plate used the same gearbox input shaft spline as the 63a box & can be used with an A series pressure plate to make it all fit. This would probably be easier to find than a clutch plate for a gearbox that wasn't sold in Portugal, even if it's technically the same part. Might be cheaper, too.

While it's apart, I'd reccommend getting an engineering shop to redrill your flywheel to take a 200mm pressure plate from an L series. Then you can just get the 200mm clutch plate from the L series too, which will fit the bigger input spline of the 63A box.

Then you get a big strong clutch that wont slip to go with your big strong gearbox.

The B210 5-speed uses an L-series clutch, the small diameter one from the L14.

I have a new clutch disk in my garage I can measure it if you like.

But i will use the A12 flywheel, so i have to use a 180mm one, i bet the one you have your your garage is 180mm isn`t it DDgonzal?

Yes, it is 180mm diameter, spline is 24T x 25 mm

A14Force, are you says you can use the A12 flywheel with 200mm clutch, if you re-drill the flwheel for a larger clutch cover?

I will try the e15 clutch plate and regarding the tailshaft i think i have to shorten a little bit isn`t it? I`m also planing to use the a12 pressure plate

E15 uses the same clutch disk as A15. No difference except for the E15ET turbo clutch & the 4WD clutch.

The automatic driveshaft and the 63A 5-speed driveshaft are exactly the same.
