#1 CA Wiring Small Hurdle
DatsAndy Posted on: 2011/3/1 11:13
So we have nearly converted a CA18DE harness using a CA18det harness already converted as a template. So far all pretty much the same apart from the odd different colored wire and had to remove one wire from the plug that goes to throttle body as it was an auto harness. But now we find this in De harness and in DEt its a different plug and has more wires. Question what is it and can i just leave it in the loom.

looks like the knock sensor plug to me.. in your case im not sure if you need it or not lol

it could be a knock sensor if the de and det sensors are different ,but it doesnt look sheileded so im guessing it has something to do with the auto maybe ???

have you got a diagram to check with ,maybe trace it back to the computer and then find out what the pin for the plug does

have you got a na ca to plug everything into or at least a knock sensor from both de and det ????

nice work btw ,and how much difference is there in the 2 harnesses ???

We googled knock sensor for CA18DE and none of the images look anything like this one. Not much difference really but the det harness has wiring for resistor pack de one doesnt. Being an auto harness i think there in lies the major difference. Honestly believe if i had a DE manual one to compare with my converted DEt manual one it would have been a lot easier to convert. Even for me an amateur

that is a oxy sensor/ o2 senser
de has a single wire, det has three wires
de std o2,det has a heater in the oxy sensor
to keep it hot off boost
det wires, one is o2 signal, other two are power,12v pos and neg i think(need to look at diagram)
will run without o2 but u will need it for engineers

Thanks Tommo Will leave it there then. That crossed my mind at one point among other things.

ok so would that effect anything ,being that the sensor wont be hot when your off boost or doesnt it adjust anything ??

The heater in my det o2 sensor went short circuit on mine once. I figured this out on the side of the road because it was blowing my ignition fuse. I cut the heater wire and drove it daily that way for the next 2 years.

I'd convert the harness to use a generic delco 4 wire sensor from a commodore.
Wires are signal, ecu ground, chassis ground and 12v.
The commodore ones fit in the same de/det exhaust manifold.
