Has anyone used rhs is the sub frames/or chassis rails on a 1200 ute?
I want to strengthen up my ute and replace the bent sub frames and floors i have in my ute. I already have the floor pieces from wayne and its just been a thought to use rhs as replacing the standard rails that are there wont strengthen the chassis.

I was thinking of cutting the original rails out and running a piece from the rear engine bay under the floor and up the back of the cabin to the front eye of the leaf spring.

Has anyone done this before?

As i said its just a thought as i dont want to replace what i have and not strengthen the car any more!

Rectangular hollow section steel tubing? I haven't heard of anyone doing that. The stock setup is strong and light so it isn't needed.

but tyrie made a flat tray and replaced the rear part of the ute ...

well i have some bent frames and would like to have strait ones so when i come to putting new floors in i would like to replace them...... But i dont want to cut them out of another ute as i cant find one that it wont wreck. I have had a great offer of another ute but i dont to stuff the whole shell to get out what i need.

Anyone think its possible. I dont need to worry about weight weight as these utes will probably go better with a little weight to hold them down :)

Definately possible Rhys! And would be a he'll of a lot stronger then the original frames. Although I havnt seen any pics of them done.. I wouldn't think it would be all that difficult

I've seen it done and done it myself. But only in sections, to replace rusted out rails.

Datsfullysik - thanks for a little confidence in regards to this possible strengthening attempt. I am asking the question cause if i was an engineer i wouldn't like to see bent up rails with new floor pans on a over powered ute when i went to sign it off lol. So how far did you go with the rhs under the floor?


Wardy - If you say it can be done then i believe you...Do you want to do it lol. Joking mate i think it will be a nice clean look under there so will give it a crack and see how it pans out. Or if i can un stitch the floor pans that are there and straiten the rails while there still in...? Then strengthen them after. Hmmm ideas ideas. I wished i had a welder and some skills with them.
Il be going to my uncles factory to play around with this stuff so i hope it pans out ok

I actually did on mates 1200 ute, i made a cross section piece between the two main rails passenger and drivers side as well as some doubling up (he he) for strength near the diff.

It is definitely possible to do mate, cut and shut.
