Anyone experimented with any of the "high performance" plugs around, like iridium, platinum, halo, split fire and the various capacitative plugs (weapon performance etc.)?

Clearly a plug that lasts 100,000kms is a win (platinum, iridium) but my interest is if any of these plugs can improve performance or allow leaner fuel mixes for better economy at cruise. NGK claim that the iridium ones enable significantly leaner mixes. Just wondered if anyone's tried any of these different plugs out.

Ran platinums in my old gravel car but no idea on whether they improved performance as I got it with them in it and never changed them

Did throw them in the plug tester at Tech and the spark absolutely killed any of the std type plugs..

They don't perform better. They only allow leaner mixtures because they don't foul as easy nor wear as fast. So yes, you can gap them diffeferently then re-jet your carby to run slightly leaner. If you keep your A12 tuned well, and re-gap the plugs every 12 mos, I see no need for platinum. If you want to gap them once every five years, then get double-platinum (or iridium).

Regular platinum only last about 35,000 miles, Double-platinum plugs last 100,000 miles.

Best plug is a 0.13 mm gap plug which can only be used with a high-energy ignition (like the stock B310 dizzy upgrade). Large gap will allow a lean mixture to more reliably burn. Note that Nissan used 0.11 gap but the matchbox is good for 0.13 gaps. Maybe the E15 dizzy is good for same. You can use this with regular plugs or with platinum, the regular will need more frequent re-gapping.

I use the orginal plug after a complete engine rebuild an the plug lasted 7 months useing everyday doh kno about the rest.i tried platnium and the plugs got real hot after idling for a minute so i took them back out

Probably make more of a differance on an EFI car than a carb few modified A

I use BP7ES and change them more often.. .they are cheap enough

All I know is that from what I saw on the plug tester vs a std plug, the spark looked like a plasma ball vs a flickering spark and it didn't blow out anywhere as easy.

To me that would make them worth it for a high performance engine but for a daily, nah, std plugs for me..

I have read from testimony of a high end drag racer (who would of course want only the best of the best), that the more expensive plugs made zero difference, and that he only used cheapies. Probably with a nice ignition set up and also whilst running insane compression. This was on the internet though so take it with a grain of salt.
I don't see the value in plugs, most of it is just marketing. Spend your money on synthetic oil or something instead.
as sss kiwi said though, if you are spending big dollars on an engine, might not hurt to have them in.

There is usually not much left of the spark plug after 400m in a top fuel rail car. Plugs are disposable items. The sheer heat the valve heads are subjected to and retain can make for combustion.

I'm interested because eventually I'll have quad throttle efi on my a15 and if I can lean it off more during cruise/ idle it'll use less fuel. Stronger spark will make it easier to get started the first time to.

I'm not a fan of platnums or irridiums after using some but the design of motors these days seems to necessatate it. I run BP6E\ES in the Y and the bird, use to use BP5ES in the Y but I suspect they were linked to a couple of head issuses in a couple of my blocks.
