#1 1k etch primer 2k paint?
thomen Posted on: 2011/7/4 21:25
Hi I was going to paint up a set of steel rims.. the car is done in 2pak so I thought best to spray the rims in 2pak.. just wondering if it's ok to use 1k etch prime as my primer? or do I have to use 2k primer?
Cheers,
Tom

Ive always used single pak etch under 2K with no problems.

I just bought single pack etch to use under the entire 2K bare metal body re-spray too.

for wheels I wouldnt hesitate to use it. it has worked on my engine blocks too.

Cheers

Ed

Cheers Ed! thanks for confirming!

what are your thoughts on enamel with hardener vs 2k?

I was just going to paint strip the rims then etch out of a can and then spray.. i figure with my parking prob the best course of action! haha

I've never used enamel so cant comment but my experience with 2K has been good.. it's really chip resistant.. somebody tried to key my car but the key didn't even cut thru the paint. this was a 2K solid colour.

when i painted my ute in 2k, the paint store insisted i used 2k compatible primer. they said that using 1k primer with 2k over can cause the paint to chemically react with the primer and bubble. they used a term for it...i think it was "burn" but forget now.
