#1 The Drifting Thread and Events
D Posted on: 2011/8/21 5:35
Right back from 1996 at my intro to
drifting in Japan Kyoto I hoped that
one day it would come to Australia
and that it could be affordable and
grassroots like it is over there.
There are big events but the amateur
ones arranged by small clubs are the
type most people can enjoy.

Scott (wetdriftwarrior) is involved
in some affordable events and will
hopefully fill us in on whats coming
up for us to go and view and even even
try with a cheap setup for fun.

It is cheaper than most motorsports and
numbers are increasing for many reasons.
Its not all about power, its more of a
fun styling motorsport where danger is
not a big factor due to slower speeds.

This is completely true D, and this is why it is growing so greatly. Its cheap and easy fun way to "use" and "tune" your car. Its not all about power, its about building your own grass roots rig and sliding it to put a smile on your face.

Once my new front end goes in I will be entering amateur events at Eastern Creek. Have participated once before in my mx5 and was awesome. All my mates go out there and its just a fun place to be, whether you're sliding or just watching it.

in perth the drift seen is pretty good normaly a event on every 2 weeks of the year
my fav event is a 2 day drift weekend 3 hours south of perth in collie its a great track were every one watchs from the infeild

but last year i had a stock sr20 stock psi stock turbo and the collie weekend would use 26 brand new federals plus all the other stuff = $3000
at a day comp / battle its a $1000-$1500

this year i have 350hp and race fuel ($3 a litre) so its gonna cost more
its really cheap till you get good has when your learning second hand tyres are fine and you dont kill tyres every 3-4 laps

Drifting is very popular in adelaide, for only $100-150 its a good cheap day/ night and good fun. Dont know if the datsun 1200 is the best car to start drifting with but with a few of the right mods my coupe is alot of fun. My mates and I have hired the tailem bend track for drifting this sunday hopefully i can keep the coupe away from the tire stacks.

Ill be interested in the amateur events no interest
in competing in higher classed events. Personally
to go out and have a bit of fun with other friends.
I wouldnt race a 1200 ute too good for to wreck
Id prefer a 720 (factory v6) or something easy to
replace panels and some kind of reliable cheap engine
that puts out 150-200hp to replace the v6.
eg. supercharged L20b or L24.

What perthute said is spot on.

S13's are the car for Drifting. could call it a design flaw but they slide so well and with an LSD and coilovers they work a treat!

ive been sliding old toyota's for the last few years, got a S13 in japan to slide at ebisu and a few other tracks and the differance is like chalk and cheese... zero camber at rear, stock SR20det rolling on 15's and the thing just slides and you can put the car where ever you want.

but anyway...

Drifting on Every thursday at Archerfield in Queensland. $55 for 4 hours prac and you can drive what ever you want... last week apart from S13's and R32's there was a XF? Fairmont, some commodore ute and a Mitsy Starion!!! and if that sounds a bit bogan, its not a skid pan its an actual track, but they dont mind what you bring. a KE70 can get around there with easy (and a good driver)

Also Drifting atleast twice a month on at Queensland Raceway.
