#1 Rotary conversion advice

Hi good people.

I'm looking for any tips, information, problems or issues and resolutions that will help me to get a recently acquired 13b carbie engine into my datsun 1200 ute with as little headache and time wastage as possible.

I have the complete Rx7 series 2 to take bits from and I have access to majority of tools so intend to do everything myself.

My welds might look poo but the grinder and a second attempt normally fixes that.

First thing I would do is speak to an engineer.. See what you are or aren't allowed in your state. Good luck.

just to let you know im half way though making a solid mount rotor x-member witch allows you to mount the rotor from the front reduceing engine flex :)

Very nice.. wouldn't mind rubber mounts tho as I don't want all the rust to fall out, Haha.

Would love to see some gearbox tunnel pics if anyone has some.

Just but a victa ride on mower. That uses enough 2 stroke to make you think your driving a rotor

Most guys use 12A front case as it has front mounts.

For racing a motor plate can be used. Not recommended for a street car as it transmit vibration directly to the body.

Then there are these considerations:
* Oil Pan
* Transmission
* Tailshaft
* Shifter
* Transmission Mount
* Tunnel
* Differential

Yeah had a look but doesn't give much info on the wiki and the mount pictures are tiny... also look like a 1000 or 620 engine bay not that they would change the mount much.

Although a 13b the donor car is a series 2 project car so mount plate is already at the front, I just need to make the rest...

Should the chassis rails be strengthened to have an engine mount further forward of the strut tower?

Have no idea about oil pan...?

I'm hoping I can fold something out of sheet metal for the tunnel, would be awesome if I could do it before taking car off road tho as time is against me (third baby due early December).

Tail shaft I'll get made from mine and the donor cars.

Its a 85 ute so diff should be ok for now... might weld for spider gears if I get a chance.

Shifter and clutch I'm hoping will come from donor car. Any pictures of peoples clutch pedal fabrications?

Can the stock ute fuel tank be moved to the passenger side easily or should I cross the exhaust over under the rear of the cab?

Also can I just smack an electric fuel pump on the line out of the stock tank or will I need to play with the pickup in the tank?

Would probably need to plumb a return line too I suppose.

Radiator could be interesting but if I'm cutting the tunnel out I might as well cut the radiator support and make the rx7 one fit.

This is good, more questions, more thinking, more ideas. Brain storming is exciting. haha.

its a good idea to strengthen the front cross member since it no longer gets used

its fairly straight forward, mount the engine from the front in-between the chassis rails like you would n rx3, mount the gearbox the with a similar bracket to ca18 one. you'll have to make the tunnel higher through the middle and make space for the clutch fork, also look into doing the shifter extension mod otherwise your shifter will be a little bit to far back for comfort. when i made my exhaust i ran then headers to the rear firewall across to the passenger side and the rest was pretty well muffler.

Awesome, thank you. Hadn't thought about clutch fork. Is the extension an aftermarket shelf item or did you fabricate yourself?
