#1 misc body questions
2quick4u Posted on: 2002/6/3 4:04
okay guys i had a few quick questions for ya.

1: how many people would be interested in carbon fiber fenders, hoods, trunklids, and maybe soem carbon fiber interior pieces like the facplate on the dash or the kickpnaels and whatnot?

2: if you wanted a set of fenders would you want them stock or with a mild flare? on the hood would you wnat stock or a hood scoop?

i'm asking cause i'm thinking about trying to make some carbon fiber ieces for my car. no its not for the looks. i was planning on fiberglass but i figured i might as well do carbon fiber to reap the rewards of even lighter weight and more strength. i'l be painting mine except for the dash face plate. my fenders and hood are rather crinkled so i'm goign to either find a set of stright ones if i can or possibly do the body work to get these straight and then make molds fo r the carbon fiber pieces from them. i was asking about the flare or hoodscoop since if i make it into the mold it will be one piece items and you won't have to worry about cracks or even doing any body wor or blending to add it on. i just figured that if i'm goign to be making the molds for me i might as well offer my services to the rest of the 1200 community. this won't be for a while since you all know i leave for boot camp soon but i want to try this when i get back. my prices wil be extremely fair most likely bordering on the ludacrisly cheap mostly cause i'm a nice guy. i don't think i'll charge much more than what the materials cost then add in S+H maybe a TINY bit added in for my labor and you'll have the price. let me know what you think guys.

i almost forgot to mention that these parts will be for a sedan since that is what i have. i'm not sure if the hood and fenders will swap or not. if not i'm sorry guys for all you coupe owners out there.

Ohhhh..I thought you were talking about 'The Body' Elle MacPherson.

She'd look good in Carbon Fibre...

I think all the front stuff is the same between all models. The windscreen + rubber and front doors are different (as are the flipper windows and rubbers.

Chris.

count me in, i'll take the lot. Hood, dash faceplate, kick panels, fenders, the lot....gimme all you got son!

As for the flares, yes, i definately would flare them (my opinion). How much is your choice, dont want them too chunky, but not too small either.

Scoop would be good also. I really like andrews patrol scoop, looks sweet, and is legal.

so yeh, i'm in for any panels your willing to make dude, and its for my sedan.

Later

Oh, fine! I post some time back asking the same thing and hear nothing but crickets chirping. 2quick4u asks and you're all over the idea. I see how you people are going to be!
But seriously, I ditched my plan because 1)I'm lazy and B)shipping overseas was a bit cost prohibitive. Granted, I never actually looked into shipping charges, see #1 above, so I could have just missed the boat.
Good luck on it 2quick. I'm pullin' for ya'.

well it won't be for a while yet since i have to get my suspension dorted and the motor dropped in but i figured i might as well test the waters so to say to see if anybody else would be interested. heres what ive been thinking of doing so far.

hood scoop: i haven't seen andrews patro scoop so i can't make an honest opinion on that yet. my ideas so far was mayeb a 280ZXT NACA style hood scoop since they are low profile and look pretty decent. another idea i had, which is admittedely more of a wet dream that a probable possibilty was a set of scoops from a 72 cuda/challenger. i really like those, low profile, have a nice mean look ot them but i'm not sure how well it will fit with the lines of the 1200. maybe a L88 corvette style? i really haven't made up my mind yet so throw some ideas or pics my way

fender flares: nothing outrageous here just a nice 2"-3" flare. i'm not sure how i'll flare the rear tire wells yet either. again nothing is set in stone. i want to find a look that is classy not overly aggresive but not mundane either. hmmm...

regarding the scoop, id love to see a liberty b4 style scoop or a gt4 celica style scoop on a 1200.

liberty b4 = http://home.no.net/impreza/subaru_liberty_b4.htm

celica gt4 = http://communities.msn.se/ToyotaCelicaGT4

also andrews scoop is off a nissan patrol, a picture is here http://winsoft.net.au/~andrew/newpaint.html

i much prefer the recessed in look so if u were going to make a custom setup id definatly have it recessed in with some nice curves.

oh and definatly flared.

oh man! i had that exact same thought!

twinnie scoops on a datto would look awesome, i have already been experimenting.

but with big cuda/challenger scoops i think it would look slightly overdone....smaller ones though....would look wicked....

jesse i think you may be thnking of the wrong style cuda scoop. here is a pic of the one i mean.

cuda scoop

its in the middle of the page and is labeled:
70-74 2 scoop "CUDA" hood.

they really aren't that hihg profile at all. from the way yuo say it i thnk your are possibly thinking of those big hemi hood scoops or maye the "shaker" hood scoop. (altough i really like the shaker scoop as well) if i'm wrong and you were thinking of the one i showed i'm sincerely sorry. everybody is entitled to their own opinion after all

I was polishing my car today, only to find a dent in the bonnet with a matching pair of muddy foot prints!
Bloody students! I don't think that carbon fibre is quite the solution though!
