#1 Need opinions for making seat brackets
KSunny Posted on: 2013/1/24 22:17
Hello all, I recently purchased a 72' Coupe which I have begun restoring.
Unfortunately, the previous owner(s) ripped out the rear mounting brackets for the seats.

I still have the front bracket. When the car was purchased the previous owner drilled holes in the floor pan and bolted up some Honda Civic seats with only 2 bolts.

My question is what can I do to safely and securely mount new seats in the car.

Thank you!

Go to the wreckers and cut the spot-welds that hold in the original floor braces.

Parts A, B and C

Oh thank you! But I think it will be nearly impossible to find any 1200's at the wreaking yards in my area. Are there other brackets that can be made to fit? Or should I just go with making my own? I really wish the previous owners hadn't hack her up.

If its a 1200 i have one here that i am cutting up for spares it still has the rear seat mounts in it. I can carefully remove the spot welds and supply you with the rear mounts if your keen and post them to you. For a reasonable price of course.

That's a different question: How to mount aftermarket seats vs. how to replace missing brackets.

Yes, use those sparco seat brackets, and bolt to the stock 1200 seat rails.

So in order to do something like this I would have to replace the stock brackets and find stock rails anyways?

No you don't have to do that. Some guys just bolt a seat straight to the floor pan, for example.

If you want it legal I would suggest using the stock pieces.

Right. I just feel like mounting seats to the floor pan is a bit unsafe. (Previous owner did this) After all, I still have the front bracket and would like to utilize it for what it was entended for.

Thank you for the advice. I've got some thinking to do. I was hoping I could retrofit some other Nissan brackets in and find decent junkyard seats.
