radiator upgrade

For all the guys who are looking to upgrade their stock 1200 radiator, I've got some info. I just got a rad out of an 83 B210 with an A-15. This radiator is freakin' perfect! You can use the factory shroud off the new rad with no modifications. All I really had to do was cut off the trans cooler nipples off the bottom, fab some small brackets to hold the top to the front of the car,(easy). The bottom hose from the 210 is a perfect match for the 1200. Plenty of clearance for the alternator. I just took it for a test drive and what a difference! It used to get hot on the freeway, now the gauge doesn't even get to halfway. the new rad is about 6 inches wider, but has the same heigth. All in all, this is a very easy swap. Anyone with cooling problems with their stock rad should give it a shot.

Thanks for the hot tip! Is the 83 B210 the US "210" rwd model (B310 on the underhood plaque)? That would have been the last year (79-82+) of the rwd sunny -- the Sentra (fwd sunny) came in the same year 1983.

Hello everybody
I have a B310 (A12 engine) myself and i had a DATSUN 1000 some years ago. I know you can go even further then that regarding the radiator question. The stock radiator of DATSUN/NISSAN B310 has only two passes on the nest (i think this is the name in english). My car radiator nest have a leak and i took it to the workshop were they replaced the nest by one with three passes. The radiator cooling capacity is excelent. You can do 90-100 MPH for 100 Km without any increase in the engine temperature (even in the summer - 36-40

yeah dd, I'm going back to get the 13 inch rims and tires off of the car tomorrow, so let me double check the year on the 210. I'll post again tomorrow afternoon and let ya know. As for RICLAGE, I think by nest you mean core, and I think by passes you mean rows. I believe this is a 3 row radiator, if I'm not mistaken. There is a HUGE difference in cooling efficiency. I've been commuting about 20 miles each way, in 80f degree weather. This car used to overheat whenever I hit 60 or above mph. Now I can do 80 and the gauge doesn't even get to normal(middle of gauge)!!! If you can find one of these...grab it!

Hey dd, just got back from the junkyard. My bad, the car is actually an 81 b210 with an A-15. Sorry for the mistake. One of the damn tires was a 155 instead of a 185 like the other three, but, what are ya gonna do? Hope this clears it up.

Yeah, that's the 210 model (US). The underhood plaque I believe says B310. Thanks Nissan for making model names interesting! I always thought the 210 was a return to the values of the 1200 -- nearly the same styling and light weight, although it's bigger than the 1200, it ways less than the B210.

Yeah, and can you believe it? I'm so stoked to get these 13's on my 1200, and one stud on both rear wheels is stripped out. I had to break both studs with a hammer. What a bitch. Oh well, at least I got 13's now...lol
P.S. going back for the exhaust next week.

I am sorry for my bad english, you are correct roughneck. When i have my 2 row radiator (with lots of dirt in it) the same thing use to happen to me. I will try to send a picture of the rebuild one (3 rows).

I have posted 2 photos of the 3 rows B310 radiator in the Miscelaneous Section.
Altough they do not show the 3 rows i hope that they will be worthy. Ric.

I use the same radiator. It's great. I use a 185deg thermostat and the water temp rarely gets to 180. This radiator is about 3 inches wider. I offset it so the 'wider' is on the passenger (right) side. If you look around you can find one from a manual trans car, too. They're both the same so who cares. I also installed an electric fan from a Sentra or something. The fan fits a little snug between the radiator and the waterpump pulley. I also installed a light that comes on with the fan ( because the car is too damn loud) just to make sure it works.
