anyone running r31 front end suspension?

Thinking about doing a r31 front end conversion with brakes coilovers etc.
Just want to know if the ride really stiff with the r31 shock? Cheers bobby

I think the stub angle is wrong giving heaps of positive camber.
Just get stiff springs and matched shocks. Why not get stanza or similar

Well I want to keep it all r31 if my diff and rear brakes are r31.
cant the camber be fixed by camber tops?! 200b struts are hard to find

R31 kingpin angle is same as 200B/280ZX and Datsun 1200 as far as I know. The 510(1600)/610(180B)/280Z kingpin angle is additional positive and so should be avoided. Yes, you can adjust it via camber plates.
Will the R31 shock be to stiff? Depends on which shock you fit. Maybe best to fit an adjustable shock and set it on the soft side. For sure it will be rougher riding than factory Datsun 1200 front struts, which are near perfect for very light 1200 (aftermarket 1200 strut shocks ride rougher). The R31 setup will increase the unsprung weight making it ride rougher no matter how good the shock.

It also depends if your running stock weight in the front end plus the spring rate your looking at running as well

I am running r31 datsport coilovers with maddat adjustable front arms in my ca18 ute , yes the stub axle is on a positive camber angle but camber tops will fix this easy, from memory it will also increase the front track by about 30mm each side. Wheel selection will be hard as you will be limited by what you can fit under the gaurds and also what will clear the r31 caliper. I cant comment on how rough it is as my utes pretty low so its going to be rough regardless

So best option would be to get a pair of 200b struts and convert to coilovers with s13 brakes for ca conversion?

Thats a bit of over kill for CA.
I thought Disc brake 1200 struts with silvia brakes would be sufficient.

S13 Brakes are "Silvia brakes". S13 brakes came in three different sizes and can be fairly easily fitted to 1200 struts for a superior braking package.
> yes the stub axle is on a positive camber angle All Datsun stub axles are on a positive camber angle. But there are two basic angles: Old designs (510/610/240z) are 12º while newer ones (B110/810/280ZX) use around 8º. Part of that is mitigated by the better mounting angle in the 1200.

Yes it may be overkill but it all depends on what's planed for the car , and I am not running a standard ca18 and am planning to run some good power with my setup, its all well and good to go fast but you want to make sure you stop. There's a thread on here that I think pigdog posted that has details for all suspension conversions and what you need with what , the link below would be a good place to start so you can determine what setup you want to run
