What tool do I use to remove the differential drain and fill plugs from my 120Y rear axle? Never seen anything like it - a round plug with a square inset.

Closest I found was a 1/2" drive, stick the square end in with no socket. It's a bit rough but gets it undone.

That's what I use - a 1/2" ratchet wrench with no socket.

That's all I've ever used as well.

I think they are actually 12.7 or 13mm as the 1/2 or 12mm eventually mashes it due to the slight play in the gap

I didn't even know how to describe it at the local auto store. They looked at me like I was from Mars. I said, "no, just a Datsun owner!"
Well, what do you know: http://www.ebay.com/itm/12pc-Oil-Drai ... 75?_trksid=p2054897.l4276

That won't work very well.
Maybe, just maybe, the plug will be loose enough to use that. But generally it needs 1/2 inch drive to get enough torque to remove. $10 will get a long breaker bat at Harbour Freight. A ratchet and a piece of pipe makes it even easier. By the way, it is not unique to Datsuns. Just most people don't use a special tool.

Well, I bought the set anyway, thinking I'd also use it on my Nova. I also have some good pipe to use with it for torque. Will see... You're right, I see those square plugs on my other cars. Funny, just never noticed. Hmmm.
