STARTER MOTOR PROBLEMS ON NEW MOTOR

Hey guys.
Went to fire up new motor and the starter makes horrible grinding noises.Almost sounds like gears are not meshing but it was the same with the second starter we tried. We have an A14 block mated up to a 60 4 speed box with no plate.Any ideas ?? Thanks Bob

Will try that tomorrow.Starting to
suspect solenoid or wiring to it Possibly wiring as both were doing the same.
