Honda S2000 engine?
RICLAGE
Posted on: 2002/10/18 10:29
Hello
I have been doing some engine homework and I noticed that the new Honda S2000 engine+gearbox will be a great engine swap for our cars. I think that it will envolve a great deal of cuting and welding and obviously it is not NISSAN. However, from my point of view it is a great atmosferic engine, with three fase VTEC system, 9000 RPM (factory) redline. Even the final gear ratio is almost (exactly) the same (it is 4.1:1) (B110-3.9:1, b310- 4.1:1). The two major drawbacks are the price (yesterday i saw one with a US$5500 tag on it) and beeing not NISSAN. The standard engine delivers over 200 HP and the standard car flys over 240Km/h. Now a days we have "a lot" of these cars running around and probably it will be quite easy to get one of these engines some years from now. Ricardo

Would be nice. But for the price you could get and FJ or SR and it would be faster and cheaper...

I don't know if it will be faster. I Think that both the FJ20DET and The SR20DET are from the 200SX or SUNNY GTI-R, aren't them ? I think they don't go as fast as the S2000? Plus the S2000 has a amazing gearbox with 6 gears (the 6th gear is quite long so with some mods you can achive a litle bit more speed)

Sr20DET out of the S15 Silvia or 200SX has a 6 speed.
For the ammount that you coudl save on the cheaper engine you could put a big intercooler on and up the boost, fit big exhaust etc... But yeah would be nice to have that S2000 engine in there. I think it is the nicest NA engine in existance...

Around here the SR20DET are geting old and I am always a litle affraid of the turbo problems.
I didn't know about the NISSAN 6 speed gearbox. I thought that only 300ZX has one on it. Ricardo

wow, I was thinking about doing the exact same thing!
apart from the prohibitive cost, how cool would it be to have a 1200 singing to 9 grand!? (or a 1000 in my case) I think though that the 20valve toyota 4ag would be an easier option, itself it has a form of vtech. I am actually pretty sure I want to get the 100kw 16 valve version and put the quad throttle bodies off the 20valve on it. I have been told the design of the 20v head limits tuning possibilities.

Yep, i would love to go the S2000 DEFINTAELY my ute would have a ball !!
However for the price tag reasons, has anyone looked into that 16v 4AGE option with MR2 supercharger. As you all know these engines have very small blocks..has anyone seen such a conversion, in a dat'? Or should i just stick within the family and go FJ/SR? Cheers

That race car that I mentioned the other day has a 4AGE with 240Hp! I really love the 4AGE it really sounds nice! The S2000 has 240hp stock std the highest specific output of an NA productin car, much the same as the brand new SR20DET in the S15 200SX/Sylvia, however the potential with the SR20DET is far bigger, reputedly upwards of 500hp is achievable?

no problem.
you can buy one, ditch the supercharger, fabricate a turbo manifold and run 15 psi of boost with the standard computer. but I don't have enough room in my engine bay for an intercooler so it is not an option I am looking at. You can view topic.
