i have to keep pumping to keep it running. once the carb begins to spit it dies.

a little history, its an a15 that was taken out of a totaled car, ive never seen it run, but i have no reason to believe that it isnt a runner. pretty much all of the accessories were taken off of my old a14 motor, besides the carb which is brand new out-of-box.

cylinders all tested between 110 and 120, ive adjusted the valves, the carb has gas. all of the plugs seem to be burning evenly.

Have u double checked that u have set up the dizzy correct spot when u put it in?

spitting carb is probably caused by the timing too retard.

thanks for the replies. i was pretty sure that i had the rotor pointing at 1 on TDC, but ill recheck it tomorrow

Hi

I had very Slimier issue , It was Ignition Timing i had set Ignition timing on after(ATDC) instead of BTDC(before TDC), Check the exact direction of your engine spinning and identify the correct BTDC and set ignition timing on 5 or 7(what ever recommend for your car

thanks
regards

Have you tried the old carb and was the the new one tuned or did you just bolt it on? Maybe turn the idle up a bit and see if that helps. Mine idles bad when cold but is fine once it warms up.

**edit....just watched the clip. Probably not what I suggested. **

Do you have the idle solenoid connected. It's a magnetic pin which cuts fuel flow to the idle circuit when there's no power. It's a hexagonal shaped bit between the carby & the rocker cover. Give it 12 volts from an ignition source & it should go 'click' when the power is turned off. All the later A series carby's have them.

so i was able to get another look at it today, the timing was slightly off. after i compensated for that, the motor ran much better, it still spits but only occasionally. unfortunately it still wont idle...

the anti-desiling solenoid has been attached and operational this whole time.

im leaning toward a vacuum leak? when i turn the motor by hand, i can hear a sucking sound coming from the back of the cylinder head/mani. i cant remember ever hearing this noise coming out of my old motor.

Also,

Check the vacuum diaphragm on the distributor? if you remove the cap and suck on the vacuum tube you should see the points plate move. If it doesn't move it means the vacuum diaphragm has failed. When the vacuum circuit it sealed it contributes to a much better idle.

You may have a vacuum leak, but that noise you hear could be the compressed air passing the valves.

after the dizzy, i had to adjust the carb a bit. i guess i made a mistake in thinking the carb was ready to go straight from the box. still may have a mani leak cause its smoking a little, but hey, its idling so to me most of the work is done.
