#1 Driveshaft for a 71 UTE
thegame69 Posted on: 2015/2/28 6:04
Long story short , I have a 71 Datsun UTE somebody did a swap from manual to Auto, now I want to swap it back to manual , i got a driveshaft from a manual coupe but it looks to short be cause it leaks gear oil from the back of the transmission, does the ute have a different driveshaft? Also if it is different which US model have a similar set up?

Wait, you have a ute?

Any ute driveshaft will work, 1971-1994. It can't be from a coupe or sedan as those use a smaller diff flange. Possibly a 1975-1978 B210 shaft may work but only from a 4-speed B210. Possible a 1979-1982 Datsun 210 4/5-spd car. They have the right flange, but the length may or may not be right.

Hmm .

Maybe they swapped more parts because a coupe tailshaft should be longer.
* Coupe/sedan: 1138 mm (u-joint to u-joint)

Is your ute a B120 or a GB120 as listed on the aluminum plate in engine bay?

With the original ute rear axle, a coupe driveshaft won't bolt on. It sounds like someone swapped rear ends. That's good as the original, while tough, is heavier.

So possibly the engine is too far forward. It should only be 25cm between firewall and back of head.

Or maybe the leak is because a bad rear seal.

Got pictures of your 1200 Pickup?

The seal size is 30mm yoke x 45mm extension housingx 7mm deep or I put in a 10mm it was all they had in stock, any bearing and seal shop should have one for u to try it will only be 5-7 big ones.
