A14 from B210: how to remove smog pump
smellsofbikes

I got an A14 from a B210. It has a smog pump, which I'd rather not keep (and don't have to, as it's going into an older car that doesn't require such things to pass emissions.)
What the manual says is that the smog pump pulls in air from an air filter, compresses it, and injects it into the exhaust. What I physically see is a tube going into the smog pump, and one coming out that goes into the head, attaching to the housing that the upper radiator hose attaches to. Does the head actually have a passageway into the exhaust from the water return? Is there any reason I can't just plug this? Thanks for any advice.

To answer my own question, in part, it looks like the H72 head does indeed have a hole that the air pump dumps air into.
Now the question is whether plugging that is a problem.

You can leave the anti-backfire valve in place, it is a check valve so all is good even after the pump is removed, even if the rubber hoses are all removed.
How to remove the smog pump? ![]() To remove the smog pump: 1. Pull both hoses off the rear of the pump. 2. Loosen the Tensioner Pulley bolt 3. Turn the Adjusting Bolt until the belt is loose enough to remove. Slip it over the fan and discard 4. On the bottom of the pump, remove the nut holding the lower shaft bolt on, then slip out the bolt 5. On the top of the pump, remove the bolt (by the words "Air Pump" in the photo) Rather than discard the belt and pump, they are worth $200 on the California market. I'd put them on eBay.

By the way, I notice you kept the double fuel lines: did you plumb one back to the fuel tank? I only have one line coming forwards from the tank, so I replaced the dual lines with a single line from the fuel pump to the carb input, as the old 1200 engine had when I got it.

Starting in 1975, USA B210s were fitted with a fuel return line. So it is functional.
B110 never had a fuel return line. If you use that 1975 fuel rail in a 1200, you can simply plug the return line in the rail. Or like you did, swap the 1200 single-rail onto the B210 engine.

I'm interested in the B210 oil pan and pick up tube if you are not going to use them...I believe you need the 1200 or 210 oil pan and pick up tube if you are installing the B210 engine in a 1200.

Apologies, leosnake_2000: this isn't going in a Datsun, so I heavily modified the oil pans (of which I now have four, with various different mods, mostly turned into some varieties of rear-sump.)
