I know its old news and it debuted as a concept in 2015.....
Hopefully mazda makes this car as planned with a rotary engine. http://youtube.com/v/W18a97Az1_8 http://youtube.com/v/y4fadFPj-Qs http://youtube.com/v/xHm2Xr7nmP8

needs an A series :)
I stripped a few rotaries in the past and the last was a S2 with a 13b which I got the engine from and sat an A series block in it and thought that would make it a reliable and economical daily :) rx7 Rollers can still be bought cheaply but would really need at least a B6 turbo mx5 or similar mazda engine. Most designers are aware Mazda borrowed long nose 3 box ratios as seen in much of the 50s and 60s classics with even their whole dna based on sinister smiling front ends from 2004 Peugeot 907. It is also exaggerated in proportions that would make it very uncomfortable even fall apart with that front end wheel destroying the guards over a speed hump at shopping trolley speed. with that roof you would only see a thin toupee sitting in it. Most prefer real cars that can be driven with a big enough bank account! pug 907 http://www.resimle.net/data/media/45/peugeot907.jpg ![]() ![]() https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia ... s-Benz_300SL_Gullwing.jpg ![]() https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8506/8564290133_f394fa1d93_z.jpg

The Skyactive line is very interesting in that they all are 14:1 compression even the diesel (lowest comp diesel for any auto engine in the world) which allows the use of lighter components due to the lower compression ratio.
Mazda using SA engines will have to learn how to slant the engine to fit it nicely in that low slung body. However I felt the Skyactive-R rotary if released will be an electric assisted engine and generator like a hybrid turbo engine. As the heat and exhaust pulses rotaries produce compliments turbos the best. The cut in halve 13b single rotor engine I had was in an escort sports sedan till it blew a flywheel at 12,000rpm but that was a turbo monster port making around 280-300hp which is almost halve hp of well tuned 13B turbo engines used drifting and apex work rather than quarter mile. Mazda could maybe bring back the rotary as a single? already other companies use it in lawn mowers and generators as a single rotor. However Fujiwara was quoted as saying: "I want to introduce new rotary without electrification first," Meaning it could still be a petrol only burner but maybe with laser sparkplugs or some kind of pre combustive process mated to advanced turbo to assist pre and post combustion.
