#1 Bolts/screws etc when spannering a motor together
thomen Posted on: 2016/7/19 23:46
Hi guys just wondering what people do about sourcing new bolts screws etc when bring an engine together is there a list of sizes somewhere I.e. rocker cover screw sizes bolts for water pump and accessories etc?

It'd be awesome if someone who sold engine rebuild kits sold a bag of bolts and screws to suit

What most people do is clean and re-use the existing bolts. Damaged bolts can be purchased at any bolt shop or local auto parts shop

Thanks David,
The difference is I'm going to be starting with a short block and separate head and separate rocker cover.

I guess I'll pull some bolts for reference from the a12 and get some purchased..

Also just wondering apart from the inlet/exhaust how interchangeable are the gasket kits from an a12-a15?

Are you saying you are missing the head bolts? Most blokes will source them from another engine, say from the wreckers. You can also buy new ones from Nissan. Head bolts are special items

1 needed for newer blocks (1974 and newer)

Most aftermarket (non-Nissan) kits are generic to fit a wide variety of years and variations

Many kits come with both round-port and oval-port manifold gaskets, and head gaskets that fit all bore sizes

For example, gasket kits
* DJM FGS6004 comes with both wet and dry oval-port manifold gaskets
* ITM 0900526 comes with both round-port and oval-port gaskets

So check the application list carefully as they contain different items

No one makes a kit/package of bolts for the Nissan A engine
* What I do is go to a pick-a-part type wrecking yard and get all the bolts needed
* Or you could examine the Datsun parts catalog and try to figure out which bolts you need and order them from Nissan

The valve cover screws are:
08310-61612 SCREW-MACHINE FIXING ROCKER COVER (6d)
& lock washers

(M6 x 16mm machine screws - a common metric screw which can be purchased just about anywhere)

Would these be the head bolts and washers I need for an a15?

You can get all that for $10 at pick-n-part

The part numbers are shown in the Nissan links given earlier
