This the most supreme original looking Japanese coupe ever made and supposedly in the article the influence to the rocket bunny look. It killed the hakosukas off then was restricted from achieving its natural higher power porting thanks to the corrupt system that protects the european brands from being destroyed much like is still happening with the 240z which is not allowed anything but the super rare LY head in order to compete against porsches, fords and other exotica and not allowed to have welded up chambers and reshaped factory heads as it did anyways in its racing days in Japan and by BRE in the US. Even the GS giken 24v heads are not allowed in European racing, Australia, US or anywhere in the world except Japan for classic racing. Totally unique designs by of Gothic like Savanna Lizard Monsters. Just wished Mazda released the Savanna again as a retro version with lower roof line wider body, longer wheelbase and Tesla 3 running gear as a partnership like it has done with Fiat for the 124 spider, it can still be considered rotary. ![]() ![]()

I wish they'd have put the 13B in the Familia R100 ... lighter car. I had a Gran Familia/Savanna sedan (Mazda 808) but it was fairly un-memorable. Weighed 10% more than the Familia
Ah but the 13B had the flat power curve of an old-school V8, nothing like it (well except a V8). What I mean by that is it didn't matter what gear you were in, when you pushed the throttle it moved out, regardless of the RPMs Gotta admit the Savanna/RX2 looks tougher

My R100 had a factory standard 12A Turbo put in and it was a great car . Never thought it was under powered. My 808 with its Experimental port and twin IDF,s was amazing . Never a fan of RX2,s or RX4,s.

Mazda old numbering scheme is confusing to me for example the RX-2 is larger and heavier than the RX-3
I have to write it out to keep it straight * Cosmo Sport (first rotary) * R100/Familia (later 323) * RX-3/Gran Familia/Savanna/808 * RX-2/Capella/616/626 * R130 FWD Luce rotary * RX-4/Luce/929 * RX-5/929 Coupe/Cosmo (Luce coupe replacement) * Mazda Roadpacer * RX-7/Savanna sports car (2-seater) * RX-8 sports car (4-seater) RX-5 Cosmo RX-4 Luce hardtop

Or "Mazda's killer of the Sunny Excellent PB110 Coupe"? the RE Sunny Coupe would have been a match for the RX-3 Coupe ![]() Quote: 112mph and still pulling hard ...

Thats the beancounters at Mazda not the designers which wanted to make their own large
limo but like most mazdas in the drawing room those days it took up to 10 years for them to become reality. A beancounter chose the horrible Kingswood as they would have been cheap and could make a profit with the empty containers going back to Japan. Rx2 was heavier and designed earlier but suspension was more expensive than leaf sprung rx3 which was the 808 familia protype which came after the rx2 which there is also a fwd version. Even the Familia known as the R100 was borrowed from the piston engined body instead of using the hand crafted cosmos coupe they had to try and make do with what they had for efficiency. Even if the R100 came out with a 12a it would have been banned from all forms of racing where the established automotive imperialists could remain dominant. Mazda should have added one more rotor to the 10a and made it a 15a triple which would have been even better than a 13b and easy with their alloy sideplates from the cosmo they already had. All alloy 15a triple would have weighed the same as a 12a or 13b and revved to 12k and would have won LeMans 24hour race and others just using a 4 speed gearbox. listen to the triple vs twin on the last run https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcyvTuoslAA Also small 12a and turbo vs supercar v8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9Wm4sIEUtI missed a gear and was impeded from the start but look at the difference. Would be interesting to swap the superv8 engine and rotary and try again as the Ford had no race ballast and prob lighter body as the Porsche copy FC was darn heavy vs earlier Rx7

D .. The R100 came out with a 12A factory ?? I swear mine had a 10A in it
They did infact make a 12A triple in the 70,s and you can still buy a new factory create motor as I saw 2 for sale in japan last year. Not sure what it was called. The twin rotor 15A and 21A never got off the ground as far as I know due to seals but the Le Mans you refer to was I think 13 G or j ?? which was a earlier glorified 20B which came out with factory porting. 1 thing I am sure of is that I miss the late 70,s and 80s !! Heaps less traffic , No speed camera,s and Less cops
