I know they aren't cheap. But there is nothing else in a close size. Hayashi was getting many inquiries about where to buy wide 14's and there was nothing legal or eadily available so he decided to make these.

Maybe on a track but on the street with that profile is worse than driving along railway tracks

Nice size for performance! But very harsh for street driving. You'd feel every pebble in the road

Some of the new KIAs have 30-series tires, same problem

These call for 8 to 9.5 x 14" wheels

Besides needing a kidney belt.. I cracked every rim on my Merc in just a few mths

The target market isn't daily drivers, it's modified classics. The japanese kyusha shakocho style guys like the small tyres. The japanese kyusha/kaido guys don't care about the harsh ride as most would be lucky to drive 1000kms per year. When we were deciding what size to make this was the consensus. My vote was for a 245/45r14.
When I was testong the tyres on a few cars a realised the tyte height was suitable for 110/210/310's without too much speedo error. But not too many guys overseas run wider than 8jj on their cars.
We do understand these are a very niche tyre.

215/40/15 sell well in Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, malaysia pretty much anywhere they race toyota yaris and civics. Plenty of those jap bozo car hackers you mention as well.

They are a good compromise for track and street.

My friend runs them on a slightly lipped datsun 1000 and its on rails yet has just enough rubber but its no plush ride with kevlar seats and womens pads like cushioning

Pretty awesome rubber though for racing Hayashi has come up with quite tough.
Now if they were in colors those Jp bozo stylers would line up for them :)
