I’ve come across these after market electronic distributors to fit a12-a15 on eBay. Has anyone brought one, how do they go? Much of a benefit? Any info would be great. Thanks

They are cheap and should make for easier starts and more power.
I wonder if the have the correct curve?

dont make any more power, nor run any better than a correctly adjusted points ignition

But, will run well for years without any need to re-adjust every six months and buy new points/condensor every year

I see these ones on eBay right now, they mostaly all look like the same unit from China. Doesn't look like any Nissan-Datsun unit that I know of. Cap & Rotor is unknown too

Some have new-type A-series hold-down plate, and some have Austin-style (adjustable) hold-down plate. Some show both plates in the ad, maybe it comes with both?

Some are listed as 22100-H7860, but that is a Datsun points distributor

According to the Hotspark web page, it *requires* a ballast resistor, or a coil with the same resistance built-in (which they are happy to sell you)

Same with Pertronix. Although there are plenty of guys who use them w/o the resistor and it (mostly) seems to work

If you run a coil without ballast resistor and it needs one it'll overheat and fail. I had it happen on my Datsun and got stuck far from an Auto shop. If the electronic distributor self limits current then you can delete the resistor. The ballast is usually bypassed during cranking to compensate for voltage sag.

I have them on all my N/A motors and never had a problem.
No noticable power increase but simple to wire up ( just need an extra +ve 12v to them )
I bought the ones with compatable coils for an extra few bucks
