has anyone put air shocks into the rear of their coupe or sedan before i wanted to try it and my friend said use lc torana ones but i'm not sure. any ideas.

Air shocks do not improve handling. They are handy when you carry loads of varying weight. When you have a heavy load, you can add more air, and they'll act like a heaveir duty spring, keeping the back of the car from sagging. If that's what you need, try it out. I haven't heard of anyone using air shocks on a 1200 before.

In the early nineties everyone was going for air shocks..In Dattos.. Well everyone I knew. Having oil filled shocks was for the poor. Not being too technical back then, my opinion at the time could have been a little ignorant.

I'm no help as to what shocks are the best to replace the 1200 ones. Pull out the old ones and go to a Pedders dealer or something.

What does "air shock" mean in Australia? In the US it means shocks that you fill with compressed air, just like a tire.

The "gas shocks" are a different story. Yes, in the late 80s these became very popular, but I dislike them. If you already have the right springs, the gas-filled shocks add even more, making the ride stiffer. They worked pretty good on old, lumbering softly-sprung cars.

of course! gas shocks. They are good for utes and station wagons for like you say.."carrying load".

coupes don't need heavy shocks in the back. i don't know why i guess its because they are so light. My circut car handles like its on rails and it has the tiny little ones it was born with. If you take the shocks off then it bounces like a rubber ball but even weak shocks seep to settle it down heaps

If you get Gabrial Red Ryders that are for a Torana LC and fit them you will find the answer. You can get these from Supercheap for about $40 : 00 each. I have used them on a SSS
and have fitted them to my current car.
