Ahoy hoy
I'm currently prepping my ute to paint and I have pretty bad rust in the channels above the doors.

I want to just cut them off but then the doors may leak. Does anyone know if they are a structural seem?

Any Idea's?

If you cut out the rust and mig in new metal, "she'll be right". If you get sections of another car would be better.

I wouldn't remove the "rain gutters", if that's what you propose to do. I think the doors would leak unless you stiffen up the door sections at the top, or use brand new rubbers every 5 years or so.

Sometimes starting with a rusty car can be a real nightmare, that'ts why I looked for a good shell for ages, before starting on my project.

If you know a good panel beater, or are pretty handy at panel beating, then this isn't a big deal. If you've ever looked closely at 1200s from bad accidents, you'd know that anything over a decent speed, you're in pretty big trouble anyway.

This is how I get an adrenaline rush at thirty five mph when driving my old datto :)

don't bog it up do the job once and do it right go and see your panel beater and ask his advice as the rain gutter is structule for the roof support.

yes they are structural part of the roof dude and as per most of the people that have given advise, you had better do the job properly the first time. for a little extra effort now you will be thankful later

I did a bog job on my 180bsss a few years ago, guess what, I have to do it again.

The rain gutter is there for a reason. so u should leave it, but i doubt it affects car structurally.

My buddy had the rain gutter removed from his ute and it really makes the truck look smooth. However, you can't even crack the window in a drizzle and he's a smoker so he says he wouldn't do it again.
