The Vanette gearbox is a 5 speed but has all the shift linkage on the side like a column shift box because it's set so far back. I've got one out in the shed. I'll take a pic of it so you can see what I mean....

Here's the Vanette gearbox next to a new Sunny 5 speed. It's shorter too. It looks like the same gearbox but with a different rear housing and shift mechanism....

It doesn't look like they are ...the four speeds rear housing is a lot smaller than the five speed or Vanette gearbox. I'm just trying to find what model the Vanette gearbox is. I have a C120 manual from '83 but according to that all the A series powered ones had four speeds. I'll have a look on the parts fiche...

Damn, just had a look through all my fiches and I haven't got one for a Vanette. I'll have a look through all the gearboxes I have to see if any others look similar.

Yes! the newer 5-speed Vanette uses the 60 transmission. Pitroad sells a conversion kit to change to floor shift, which basically makes it a B310 five-speed (RS5W60A to FS5W60A). Pitroad swap.

The 1970s C20 (Vanette/Cab) used the R4W56 4-speed, which looks just like the F4W56 used in the Datsun 1200 4-speed, except for the back half.
