Was rebuilt about 2 - 3 years ago.

What im after is some ideas for mods i can do to the engine without spending buckets of money. Basically i wanna get as much go from the engine as i can without spending a lot of money and replacing lots of parts. Hope someone can help !

BOOST Son BOoooooooooost !!!!!

Get someone who can wipp you up a manifold, buy yourself a GT28 rollaball bearing Turbo....... leave everything else standard maybe need a change the fuel pump ?

hehehe. pull the head gasket off, go and buy a piece of 1.6mm copper sheet, cut your self a new gasket, wack it all together and have fun.

To be honest Champ, when you work out the formula for Cheap and Easy Horsepower, let us know becuase i dont dont think any of us have found the forumla as yet, good luck looking

buy an a15 there cheap and will give you more grunt
or cut the air cleaner box surround off and make yourself a sports air filter cheap and easy

Or don't cut up your aircleaner and run an air duct to the front of the car for cool air.
I think the cheapest upgrade would be an A15 from another Datsun. It should just bolt in with the exception of some easy motor mount extensions.

Before you go looking at performance improvements, try going for the cheapest & best performance tricks. Give it a FULL tune up.
Check the compression. Thats always a good start. If your engine is down on compression then fitting twin carbs Etc. will not help much. Get the tappets correctly set, replace the points & maybee even the condenser. Set the dwell angle correctly & monitor it at about 1,000k, then 5,000 & 10,000k. Set the timing correctly & make sure that the vacuum can works correctly & does not leak. Replace ALL filters & fill with the correct grade of oil for the season & the use that you have for the vehicle. Make sure that the brakes are correctly adjusted & are NOT dragging. Make sure that the carb is correctly adjusted.

Depending on just how good or bad your car is tuned & serviced, you may find that this perks it up quite nicely. This is the baseline upon which you base further improvements, & this is abiut as low cost as you can get.

If the compression is down, then rectify the CAUSE of the problem. This usually involves the good old "ring & valve" job & is recomended before adding any performance improvements to a "used" engine.
