twin su carbs air filter setup.

hi folks
I just bought some twin su carbs. Not sure what they are from, but I think that they came from a 1600, as I got a 1600 and 1800 manifold with them. The previous owner seemed to think that they came from a 1600 but he seemed a bit loose on that. Anyways, they also came with a pair of those little cromed intake trumpets. They look cool, but I cant think of much use for them as they dont provide any filtering. I think they will come in handy for braggin rights but thats about it. Does anyone know of a setup that uses them and a filter. Something like and inline filter perhaps. My car is gonna be used as a daily driver, when I am home to drvive it, with about 80% use on bitimum roads with the oterh 20% to be on country roads/gravel and the odd round of circle work (hehe). One more question, the manifolds for the 1600/1800 are different than an a12. I know that the 1800 is an l series but not sure about the 1600. Will the 1600 manifold fit onto the a12 in a 1000? thanks in advance.

There is no 1600 manifold that fits an A12.
Nissan made several different 1600 engines. Twin-carbs were most commonly available on L16 engine. There was also a GA16, CA16, J16, E16, R16 and I think one more ...

righto well thats cool then
The twin sus, will they make much of a difference in performance. i currectly have a 2 stage progressive webber (downdraft) on a standard manifold. Is it worth trying to hunt down an aftermarket manifold for this setup or just find a datto part to fit?

I have read the tech pages here and the best that i can work out, I need to find an a12gx manifold so that the sus will bolt on. no other manifold will fit.

Hey there,
Just in relation to the trumpets- keep them on if you can. There is some evidence that they actually help speed up the intake air and help with higher rpm hp. As far as manifolds go for the SU's, check the redline catalaogue- I am sure they do one for a SU's onto a 1600... Cheers

hi, i had twin SUs on my last car, an A15 apparently the guy i bought them off and a few mechanics said they were on a 'lynx' manifold. dunno if that means anything to anyone.

The sock filters thatyou metion, I assume are really only a fine filter suitable for racing or bitumin use only. I expect to use my car on the gravel a bit about 15-20% fo the time. (I have frinends in the country)
I guess the best way is to have lynx or unifilters fitted, with washable foam type. The only trouble with lynx manifolds is that they were bought out a while ago I think, and they dont produce under that name anymore. I use a lynx adaptor to bolt my webber to the standard 1200 manifold. I guess that whilst the trumpets will probally allow better airflow, with my expoected driving conditions, I will eventually kill my engine sooner rather than later. I think they willbe reserved for photos shoots only.

I have done a bit more research and I cant find any manifolds for twin SUs for a 1200 round port head. Lots for webbers, single, twin, down/side draft, but nothing for side draft SUs.
I bought a unit from a reputable performace shop here in Perth, Welshpool to be exact, and they didnt sell me the right one. It doesent fit my head, or atleast it doesent fit one that I have on the shelf spare, so i guess its for a L series. I will put up a photo of it when I get home. They assured me that it was the right one, and that they wouldnt refund it for me cause it was old stock, and it was the right one, so it wouldnt be a prob. i guess that I shoulve smelt a rat when they say that. Pisses me off no end when I get crap advice from supposedly the best performace shop in perth. These weere the same giys that told me that a $500 dizzy will fit a vacum advance problem with twin SUs that was discussed in an old thread. I guess they only like v8s so everything else is just crap. sad aint it. I love a bent 8 as much as the next man, but my datto is a bit more cost effective and so is the weapon of choice.
