I have seen articles on converting to a 5 speed tranny, and different articles on converting to an A15. Both say that the mounts are off by about 2 inches. So, if you installed both an A15 engine and tranny, would that make up for the difference and just bolt in???

The A12 and A13,14,15,12A have the engine brackets in slightly different positions. I think the 5spd is just longer.

LOL soo true.. but thats what working on cars is all about it makes it so much more fun.. coz think a bout it if everything just bolted in it would be very boring.

If you've got an A12 and are thinking about an A15, you should consider other engine conversion options since the A15 requires no small amount of work to install correctly. Had I known, in hindsight, I would have probably skipped to a CA18 ...

I thought the A15 swap was super-easy. The only modified parts I made:

1. Modified motors mounts. I did not modify the crossmember or oil pan. But apparently you don't even need to modify the mounts! Just use a flat plate ...

2. Flat plate for the transmission mount, cut to right shape and two holes drilled.

I used a stock Datsun driveshaft.

Did you use the 1200 driveshaft or the one from the donor vehicle?

I used the original 1200 4-speed and driveshaft. The A15 came from a 1980 B310, which if I recall correctly was from an automatic car. I bought the whole car for $100 or so, it was rusted out, but mechanically A-1.

The 5-speed I put in later, and I don't remember about the driveshaft. It was either a 1200/B210 driveshaft or a B310 driveshaft. I put in the tranny since the torque of the A15 broke some gears in the 1200's 56-series 4-speed (under moderate driving, no clutch dumps or anything).
